According to Entertainment Weekly, the Strictley stars had been looking to find a way to get a name that would be associated with their brand.
“Chris Martin is a very iconic figure in our world and we’ve been searching for a way that he could be a part of our brand and we have a great idea for how he could fit into the show,” said Simon Schuster, Strictleys head of creative and marketing, in a statement.
“I’m so excited that he’s going to join us in the brand.
We’re looking forward to being able to share his incredible personality with the world.”
Mr Martin was a finalist for the role of Mr Scott in the new series, but was forced to withdraw.
He is the only Strictylers actor to have been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Scott.
He was also the star of The Man in Black and the first of Strictyles own musicals to make it to the stage.
In 2018, Stereotypically Canadian, Mr Martin was nominated for a Grammy for his song The Last Dance.
He has been featured in numerous films including The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Wedding Singer, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
He will be joined in Strictlis world by his wife, actress Sarah Greene, who also played the role in the series.
Strictly stars Emma Watson and Chris Martin in Stereotypeically Canadian: Strictlin’s Last Dance, which is due to be broadcast on ABC on Sunday, February 16.
