A year ago, Amazon made the leap from a niche online retailer to one of the biggest booksellers in the world.
Now it’s moving into a new phase with a new product: the Amazon bookcase.
And in an effort to bring its online retail business to a wider audience, Amazon has opened up its first brick-and-mortar store in Seattle.
The store is just a few blocks from the Seattle Center and Seattle International Airport.
It opens Monday.
“Amazon has always been a destination for fans of reading, and now with this new retail location in Seattle, we are adding even more fans to the library,” said Scott Hecht, Amazon bookstore chief executive officer.
The Seattle store has been under construction for more than two years, according to a Seattle Times story, and will be located just a block from the new bookstores that Amazon is building in Atlanta and Chicago.
Amazon’s Seattle store is located just three blocks from its new Bookstore, which will open in May.
