The biggest news of the week: The Browns will open their 2016 campaign at home against the Lions, and it looks like they will have a better chance of victory than most people would expect.
Here’s everything you need to know about the matchup.1.
Browns are likely to win the Browns-Lions matchup, but they’re not sure how.
After the Browns lost to the Patriots in Week 1, general manager Ray Farmer told reporters he was “a little bit worried about where we were at.”
That didn’t sit well with the fans, who were quick to express their displeasure on social media.
The fans wanted Farmer fired, and the team eventually did, with Farmer agreeing to a one-year deal with $1 million guaranteed.
Farmer then resigned after the Patriots beat the Browns on Sept. 2, and after the Browns beat the Patriots on Sept 3.
The Browns were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16.
Farmer’s replacement, Mike Lombardi, signed a two-year, $5 million deal.
Farmer said he felt the Patriots were more “aggressive” and played with a little more urgency in Week 2.
The Bengals lost to Pittsburgh in Week 15.
The Steelers are 1-5 in games in which they’ve won, including two of the last three.
The Ravens won the AFC North in Week 17.
The Bears won the NFC North in the first week of the season, but lost to Seattle in Week 13 and then the Rams in Week 18.
The Cowboys won the division in Week 10 and lost to Green Bay in Week 14.2.
The Colts won’t be as easy on the field this week, but the defense will be more impressive.
Quarterback Andrew Luck will play well, but it won’t happen with a new starting quarterback in Josh Johnson.
Johnson has been benched by coach Chuck Pagano, and Pagano was criticized for not being more aggressive in the preseason.
Pagano said he was doing everything he could to get Johnson better, but he had a hard time getting it done.
The only player on the Colts who could have done that was Johnson.
It’s unclear if Pagano will play Johnson at all, or if he will lean on Josh McCown and Jacoby Brissett to provide some stability.3.
The Packers and Saints are both expected to win their games, but this matchup isn’t really up in the air.
The NFC North is very much in play, and this game could be decided by who is at home.
The Vikings, who won the conference this season, are 1,000 yards away from winning the NFC title, while the Falcons and Saints have been the best teams in the division.
This game could decide who is the NFC South champion, and if it comes down to a divisional matchup, who should win?4.
The Falcons are still looking to bounce back from a poor Week 16 performance.
Atlanta has a bye and a win would give them a playoff spot, but there’s no guarantee the Falcons will be at full strength in Week 9.
The Jaguars have won their past five games, and they’re 7-0 against the NFC West this season.
But the Falcons have lost four straight, including a 31-10 loss to the Rams last week.
The Rams are 6-2 against the AFC South this season and are 2-3 in their past three.
If the Falcons win out, they would have the best chance to make the playoffs.
They’re 5-3 against NFC West teams, and 1-3 vs. NFC East teams.5.
The Eagles have played very well in their first four games.
Quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Sam Bradford have been phenomenal.
The Jets have been a little better, with a pair of victories.
However, both teams have been terrible in their last three games.
Wentz has struggled against the pass, with two interceptions and a passer rating of minus-14.
Bradford has had a difficult time throwing the ball in recent weeks.
Bradford had two interceptions in Week 11 and has yet to throw an interception in a game since.6.
It looks like the Patriots are a bit better than their record indicates.
Quarterbacker Dont’a Hightower has been playing well, and he’s been the focus of much of the criticism.
Hightowers defense has been one of the NFL’s best in recent years, but coach Bill Belichick and his coaching staff have shown a lack of urgency to improve on the team.
If Hightows defensive prowess continues, he could be one of New England’s best defensive players.7.
The Titans and Colts are playing a lot of football this season with a lot more action than the Browns.
The game between the Titans and Patriots is the only game of the year against teams who haven’t won a game yet.
It could be a good matchup for the Titans, as they have a bye before facing the Titans in Week 3.
Tennessee has a 2-2 record against AFC teams this season while the Colts have a 3-1
